Rabieh... a neighborhood that shines brighter with each passing day!

Al Rabieh is one of the upscale areas we discussed in the article "The Most Expensive and Finest Residential Areas in Amman, Jordan 2023." It possesses a unique location among other areas in Amman in terms of safety, luxury, and location. Its name, Rabieh, has significantly impacted property investors and seekers, as it has been chosen as one of the best areas for both living and investment. Its name suggests its elevation above other areas and its exceptional views.

Why was the Al Rabieh area named like this?

No name suits this area better than Rabieh, which is derived from the Arabic language, specifically from the words "al-raboo" and "al-rabwah," meaning the elevated and overlooking area. Perhaps its name came about due to its location on a hill in central Amman, from which you can see most of the different areas of Amman. The Al Rabieh area is situated on a hill with an elevation of 1,015 meters above sea level, and its elevated location contributes to a cold winter climate and a moderate summer climate.

It is said that this project was another reason for naming the entire area Rabieh, as its name was adopted in the mid-1970s.

Location of the Al Rabieh area

The location of Al Rabieh is extremely strategic in Amman, as it sits between the western and eastern parts of Amman, as well as between its southern and northern regions. This makes it a connecting hub between all areas of Amman, providing easy and seamless access to all neighborhoods.

It's important to note that Al Rabieh is part of the eastern Tlaa Al-Ali area, located between Wasfi Al-Tall Street (Gardens Street) and Mecca Street in parallel, intersecting with Medina Munawara Street and Sharif Nasser bin Jameel Street. Al Rabieh is bordered by Tlaa Al-Ali to the west, Shmeisani to the east, and Gardens to the north and Um Uthaina to the south.

Al Rabieh distinguishes itself with its strategic location, attracting real estate investors and those seeking upscale living.

How Al Rabieh Developed

Rabieh's residential development began in the 1950s when it was primarily an agricultural area with many makeshift homes. The lands of Al Rabieh were owned by the Dabbas clans from the city of Salt. In the late 1960s, specifically in 1969, a government decision was made to build a housing project for senior government employees, consisting of 41 houses. This project was named "Kibar Moazafin Al-Dawla Suburb," and it was completed in 1970, making it the first construction in Rabieh. The rest of Rabieh's areas were still used for wheat and tobacco farming, as well as for cultivating vineyards, olive trees, and other fruit-bearing trees.

However, in 1982-1983, the project's name was changed from "Kibar Moazafin Al-Dawla Suburb" to "Al RabiehSuburb" due to the retirement of most senior employees.

In 1984, the Greater Amman Municipality made new administrative divisions for the area, and Al Rabieh became part of the eastern Tlaa Al-Ali area, which later included Tlaa Al-Ali, Um Al Summaq, and Khalda. It was also referred to as Western Shmeisani (Shmeisani Basin and Um Al-Dibaa Basin) before becoming known as Rabieh.

During the Gulf War in 1990 and the ongoing Iraq War throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Al Rabieh managed to attract individuals with financial means and became a preferred destination for residential stability. This had a strong influence on real estate investors, leading to the development of Al Rabieh into what it is today. Despite its growth, Al Rabieh has maintained its upscale identity to this day.
